3.1.4. Iaxcomm IAX softphone

The users and extensions are now registered on the Asterisk. However, the users must be registered also in the IAX client phone. We will use iaxcomm which can be downloaded freely for both linux and windows distributions from http://iaxclient.sourceforge.net/iaxcomm/

The telephone looks like this:

You can add new users by opening subsequently Options/Accounts/Add. We will add the users we have registered on iax.conf. The first one is ivan_iax. I prefer the account name to be the same as the username. Host IP address must be the IP address of your asterisk server (here it is 10.3.3.25 in your case you must type the IP address of the asterisk server which you use). The password is the same as the secret in the iax.conf where ivan_iax is registered.

The second IAX user is test_iax. The password is the same as secret in iax.conf and the host will be the IP address of your host.

For information how to make the configurations in the Asterisk's configuration files please read our tutorial about the Configuring IP Phones for use with Asterisk

When we choose the user ‘test_iax’ and dial number 1111 here it is what appears in CLI and on the phone screen:

iaxComm version: 1.2.0 has big problem that it can't receive call ! It's very good to make out bound call and trasnfer is great. I thinkg its a bug what they missed, hope very soon they will add recieve button. Say. iaxLite has Dial & Ans button, like that something so that it can receive incoming call.

I have a Asterisk box running with a public IP. I am able to configure the softphone from and connect to the Asterisk box from a windows system in one Lan which is behind a NAT. When I try to connect another softphone to the Asterisk from a windows system in another Lan, it fails and no message is shown.

Is there any precondition or settings that should be changed in the firewall? Can someone help?
